What Were the Best Cars to Own in 2014?
Auto Express have carried out a survey of 50,000 drivers to determine the top 100 cars to own in 2014. The final list contains a variety of vehicles, from typical family saloons and nippy hatchbacks, to some more luxurious offerings. There are some surprising names on there too, which shows that the competition in the production car market is still very high. This article will look at some of the top cars from this year’s poll, so if you’re in the market for a new car, you will definitely want to read on.
The Skoda Yeti has topped the poll for a third consecutive year, with voters citing the quality of the car’s construction, the ease of use and the superb handling as reasons for its selection. The Yeti has been in production for four years, and the fact that it has never ranked outside the top two in the history of these polls is a testament to the quality and reliability of the vehicle. Ranging from £16,000 to £28,000, the Yeti is an affordable – and as the results show – very reliable car to drive.
The top three spots were all occupied by Skoda cars, so 2014 proved to be a stellar year for the Czech manufacturer. The second and third places were awarded to their Citigo and Superb MkII vehicles.
BMW 5 Series (MkVI)
A name that is synonymous with luxury and performance, German manufacturer BMW has a history of delivering superb vehicles that combine the best in engineering, exhilaration and comfort. The 5 Series received a revamp in 2013, with subtle aesthetic tweaks and an update to their iDrive onboard control system. There are four different specification versions of the 5 series: SE, Modern, Luxury and M Sport. For those who are inclined to opt for some extra power with their luxury, the M5 offers this in abundance. With prices starting at £31,000 for the SE model, and increasing gradually through the Modern, Luxury and M Sport versions.
Kia Rio (MkIII)
Trying to force your way into the hatchback or ‘supermini’ market is no mean feat, especially with that sector already hosting massively popular cars such as Renault Clios, Ford Fiestas and Vauxhall Corsas. However, the South Korean manufacturer Kia has successfully made their name as a producer of high quality hatchbacks thanks to their excellent Rio model. Available as a three door or five door model, the Rio offers agility, superb drive quality and with prices starting at £9,495, excellent value for money.
