ContinentalContinental has announced a new partnership with DFDS, Northern Europe’s largest integrated shipping and logistics company, to reduce CO₂ emissions through the use of digital tyre monitoring technology. This collaboration focuses on equipping DFDS’s trailer fleet with Continental’s ContiConnect digital tyre management system.
DFDS operates more than 1,500 trailers across Europe. By integrating Continental’s tyre monitoring technology, the company aims to improve fuel efficiency, extend tyre life, and reduce overall emissions. The ContiConnect system continuously measures tyre pressure and temperature, allowing fleet managers to detect issues early and prevent breakdowns or inefficient driving.
Properly inflated tyres can significantly improve fuel economy, which in turn reduces carbon emissions. For a large logistics operator like DFDS, even small gains in efficiency can lead to major environmental and cost savings. Continental estimates that fleets using ContiConnect can reduce tyre-related breakdowns by up to 30 percent and fuel consumption by around 1 percent per vehicle.

The partnership is part of both companies’ broader commitment to sustainability. Continental’s goal is to become fully climate-neutral along its entire value chain by 2050, while DFDS aims to be climate-neutral by 2050 with interim targets set for 2030. Reducing emissions from transport is a key component of both strategies.
The ContiConnect system delivers real-time tyre data through a central online platform. This gives fleet operators full visibility over the condition of their tyres, enabling predictive maintenance and smarter route planning. It also helps avoid unnecessary tyre replacements by ensuring tyres are only changed when actually needed.
Continental sees digital tyre monitoring as a vital step toward smarter and more sustainable transport. The company has developed several solutions for commercial vehicles that combine performance, safety, and environmental responsibility. Its technology helps logistics companies meet growing demands for carbon reduction and operational efficiency.
For DFDS, the collaboration with Continental adds another layer to its existing sustainability efforts, which include investing in electric trucks, alternative fuels, and energy-efficient ships. Tyres are often overlooked as a source of emissions, but proper tyre management can have a significant impact.
Both companies believe this partnership can serve as a model for other logistics operators aiming to lower their environmental footprint. By combining data-driven insights with high-performance products, Continental and DFDS are taking a practical, results-oriented approach to greener logistics.
