Michelin Launches X-CRANE 2 Tyre for Mobile and All-Terrain Cranes

Michelin has unveiled the X-CRANE 2 tyre, specifically designed for mobile and all-terrain cranes operating both on and off-road. Building upon over a decade of experience and collaboration with industry leaders, this tyre aims to enhance reliability, energy efficiency, and productivity in crane operations.

The X-CRANE 2 is now available in size 445/95 R 25 178F TL, following an initial release in summer 2024. Notably, the tyre is 5% lighter than its predecessor, the X-CRANE +, contributing to reduced rolling resistance and lower carbon emissions. This weight reduction, combined with a new load and speed index upgrade from 174F to 178F, allows vehicles to carry an additional 800 kg per tyre at speeds up to 80 kph. This enhancement translates to an extra 1.6 metric tons per axle, improving operational efficiency.

Fuel consumption has also been addressed; machines equipped with the X-CRANE 2 have demonstrated a 13.3% reduction in fuel usage compared to main competitors, equating to approximately 826 litres of fuel saved over 10,000 kilometres. This efficiency not only reduces operational costs but also supports environmental sustainability efforts.

Advanced Safety Features and Compatibility

Safety enhancements are a key feature of the X-CRANE 2. Braking performance on wet roads has improved significantly, with tests showing a 21% shorter braking distance compared to leading competitors. The tyre's M+S marking indicates its suitability for use in mud and snow, ensuring versatility across various terrains and weather conditions.

A standout innovation in the X-CRANE 2 is the incorporation of Michelin's REGENION technology. This technology employs 3D metal printing to create self-regenerating tread patterns, maintaining high levels of grip and traction throughout the tyre's service life. Additionally, REGENION reduces tread deformation and rolling resistance, further contributing to fuel efficiency and consistent performance.

The X-CRANE 2 has received approval for use on numerous crane models across European and American markets, including Liebherr's LTM, LTC, and LG series; Grove's GMK; Tadano's AC; and Linkbelt's AT models. This wide compatibility ensures that a broad range of crane operators can benefit from the tyre's advanced features.

With the introduction of the X-CRANE 2, Michelin continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation, safety, and efficiency in the heavy machinery sector, providing solutions that meet the evolving demands of the construction and lifting industries.
