Pirelli had to step up its game for a dynamic Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) like the Lotus Eletre. The technology advancement had to meet the rapidly evolving market needs and offer new solutions. As Dario Marrafuschi, Head of Product Pirelli, explains, the development of tyres necessitated reimagining the concept and evolution of tyre technology, just as vehicles are changing profoundly.
The meticulous development process included rigorous testing on challenging tracks, such as the iconic Nürburgring Nordschleife. Dr Flavio Friesen, from Lotus Tech Innovation Centre, commends Pirelli for delivering tyres that perfectly match the performance requirements of Lotus's electric and dynamic vehicle.
Pirelli's Elect tyres for the Lotus Eletre feature an optimised footprint and specific compounds to maximise grip and reduce wheelspin, a common issue in EVs due to the immediate torque from electric motors. These tyres provide outstanding handling performance and a superb steering feel. Pirelli also prioritised acoustic comfort, designing Elect tyres to reduce rolling resistance and make journeys quieter and more comfortable. They are European tyre label certified, with an 'A' rating for wet grip and noise, demonstrating their high performance.

Pirelli ensures safety with the innovative Seal Inside technology available for the 22 and 23-inch tyres for the Lotus Eletre. It marks the debut of this self-sealing system in such large sizes. Seal Inside maintains the air pressure within a tyre even after a puncture, allowing uninterrupted journeys.
The bespoke P Zero and P Zero Corsa tyres for the Lotus Eletre result from a cutting-edge development process using virtual design tools. The tyre specification was defined using 3D modelling before producing any physical prototypes, leading to greater detail and efficiency in the design cycle and collaboration with Lotus.
