Continental Tyres has released a new line of tyres. These tyres were made using recycled PET bottles and are of high quality. To make these eco-friendly tyres, Continental made use of the ContiRe.Tex technology which they purchased. This state-of-the-art technology replaces one key material in tyres production with recycled PET bottles. The ContiRe.Tex technology completely replaces the type of polyester typically used to make tyres. This small change makes a big difference in the tyres' quality, development process, and overall appeal. Continental implemented this technology in their April 2022 series production, and the results have been outstanding. This technology has also been introduced to the tyres of current Season 2 of the Extreme E season, see the video below.

What is ContiRe.Tex?

Continental first revealed the ContiRe.Tex technology in 2021, where they explained how it works. The technology that Continental now uses makes use of polyester yarn to make tyres. In typical tyres production, companies use regular polyester for the tyre's carcass. But they don’t just use any polyester yarn. The polyester yarn used by Continental is now obtained from PET bottles that don’t undergo any prior recycling or chemical action before being used by the technology. This method of producing polyester yarn from PET bottles is innovative and efficient, providing polyester yarn of high quality with a shorter processing time.

''A standard set of tyres for a passenger car can be made using about 40 recycled PET bottles with the ContiRe.Tex technology''

Continental has ensured that the bottles used for their tyres production come from places that do not have the means to recycle them. This allows Continental to contribute to the economy of those regions directly and increases the net positive impact of the company and their new tyres. The ContiRe.Tex technology is efficient and eco-friendly in every way. A standard set of tyres for a passenger car can be made using about 40 recycled PET bottles with the ContiRe.Tex technology. Each tyre that Continental makes using the ContiRe.Tex technology is marked with a logo that lets everyone know that the tyres are made of recycled materials. The logo simply reads “Contains Recycled Material” and is a legal requirement for any product made using recycled materials.

Continental currently offers three tyres models that have been designed using recycled PET bottles to make polyester. These models include the PremiumContact6, EcoContact 6, and the AllSeasonContact. A visit to the Continental site will show you what dimensions each of these products are available.
